Campaign: “A New Development”

Episode 19: The Real Blackport

April 20, 2025

Crouching beside the guild leader's fallen body, Korrin Vale pressed two fingers against her throat, searching for any flicker of life. Nothing. No trickery. No last gambit. Szelden was truly dead.

The battle below raged on, screams and steel echoing through the collapsing lair. The perfect distraction.

Without hesitation, Korrin began the work of an accomplished rogue. From her belt, he claimed a heavy pouch of gold—one hundred coins, glittering in the dim torchlight. From around her neck, he lifted a guild medallion, a symbol of power and leadership now lost. He tucked it away as a souvenir, a reminder of the night he changed Blackport’s future.

Last, he slid a rune-etched ring from her finger. Strange markings shimmered faintly across its surface—magic, undoubtedly, though its true nature remained a mystery. He pocketed it carefully, knowing its secrets would wait for another day.

Below him, the guild tore itself apart. Blood slicked the stone floors. Orcs roared, goblins shrieked, humans fought and fell. Whatever was left of the thieves guild would not survive this night.

Without another glance, Korrin melted into the shadows, picking his way through broken halls and crumbling corridors. No one noticed his passing. No one stopped him.

He slipped through a final broken gate—and was greeted by the rising sun.

Golden light spilled across the worn streets of Blackport, washing over the cracked stones and the waking city beyond. Smoke lingered in the morning air, but here, in the open, life went on.

Korrin tightened his cloak, feeling the weight of the gold at his side, the ring and medallion hidden close to his skin. He allowed himself a quiet, knowing smile.

He had survived the game. And in the end, it was the same city that had greeted him when he arrived—unchanged, unbroken.

This is The Real Blackport. He whispered aloud. Mocking Szelden's words. Back to the way things were. For now...
